Spring

The main theme of my final composition is the identity of Mikayla. It is also focused around “spring”, as the artworks in this final composition focus around spring.

My final composition is a series of artworks. It has a range of different colours, and some artworks are just using black and white tones, while some are very colourful, like the frangipani photo. One artwork is those colours combined, with a grey and black toned case and a vibrant pink blush inside. The elements of art that are most obvious in my artwork are tone, because I use many different tones of black and grey in almost all my drawings (Bowie and Blush). I also used texture in my drawing of Bowie and the blush, as I tried to make the texture of Bowie look like fur, and the texture of the container in which the blush is in looks like hard plastic which it is. The tools I used to create my art are a HB and 2B and 6B pencil to change to tone and add texture, I also used a blending stump to add texture. I used blush when drawing the blush to make it unique and to add colour and realism to my artwork.

I explored Leonardo da Vinci’s techniques of tone in my artwork of Bowie, as I changed the tone from tonally light, to even more tonally dark to add realism into the artwork. This is important in my final composition as Bowie is one of the most important parts of Mikayla’s identity.

The process I used to create these artworks was to plan it first, I planned it in my process journal and experimented with various ideas (blush and other makeup and water colour). After this I began drawing the final design. I decided not to go with some things in my plan due to time but most ideas got through. My artwork was inspired by my cousin Mikayla, as I portrayed her identity through my artwork using her dog Bowie, her makeup, her favourite flower (poppy) and a photo of frangipani’s which represent spring and they have a pink tone which is her favourite colour. My goals for this artwork was to successfully portray my cousin’s identity using photography and drawing. I think I met this goal; however, it was not as successful as I hoped. I cut out some of the drawings I intended to include (the photo of Mikayla and nanny) but I didn’t have enough time. In creating this final piece, I learnt how difficult it is to draw realistic facial features using tone. This final piece isn’t quite what I imagine, however it is okay. I imagine my final piece with more artworks including the drawing of Mikayla, but it was too difficult to get the facial features right and I didn’t have much time. However, the rest of the artwork is still what I imagined except I added a photograph of flowers. This piece may influence future artworks because I could use makeup in my future artworks. The makeup I used in this piece worked really well and could be used in the future.
