Sciences
With inquiry at the core, Sciences within the MYP at Good Shepherd Lutheran College, seeks to guide learners to independently and collaboratively investigate issues through research, observation and experimentation. Through this scientific inquiry learners develop critical and creative thinking skills and can apply these to research and designing experiments, as well as learn to identify assumptions and misleading data. Learners come to appreciate and respect the ideas of others, gain good ethical-reasoning skills and further develop their sense of responsibility as members of local and global communities.
Learners are given the opportunity to explore the connections between science and everyday life. As they develop increasingly complex investigative skills, learners will discover the tensions and dependencies between science and morality, ethics, culture, economics, politics and the environment. Through rigorous, inquiry-based learning experiences within Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth Science learners can develop and cultivate analytical, inquiring and flexible minds that pose questions, solve problems, construct explanations and judge arguments. Most importantly, through the study of Sciences, learners are encouraged to develop sensitivity towards living and nonliving environments, thus enabling their active involvement in the preservation of our planet.
