Learning Through the Junior Years

Good Shepherd Lutheran College has three Junior Schools:

  • Leanyer Campus, Early Learning - Year 5
  • Howard Springs Campus, Early Learning - Year 5
  • Palmerston Campus, Early Learning - Year 5

Christian Studies & Specialist Subjects

Students participate in a Christian Studies program that encourages them to develop an understanding of Christian beliefs and values. Single subject teachers take the students for Japanese/German, Music and Physical Education which commences in Transition.

Good Shepherd recognises that developing every student’s individual talents as well as nurturing their emotional and spiritual growth is vital to the development of the whole child. Students are encouraged to become independent learners and this occurs in an environment that supports students to take risks and to extend themselves in a culture that values the experience as well as the outcome.

Volunteers

The Junior Schools have a strong focus on developing partnerships between home and school. Volunteers are welcomed into the classrooms and are valued for their contribution. There is a strong sense of community with the Junior Schools and this is supported by Class Carers who plan social events and support families.

Beyond the classroom

All students take part in swimming lessons each year and the annual swimming and athletics carnivals are highlights on the calendar. Good Shepherd has a strong presence in the local netball competitions with the Junior School students starting to play in Year 2. Year 5 students take part in the Darwin and Palmerston "Top End Region Interschool Sport" events.
