MYP Projects

The Community Project and the Personal Project - are learner-centered and age-appropriate projects that allow learners to lead and participate in a sustained, self-directed inquiry set within an MYP global context. Through the MYP Projects learners can demonstrate the skills, attitudes and knowledge required to complete a project over an extended period of time as they generate creative new insights and develop deeper understandings in an area they are passionate about. MYP Projects provides an opportunity for learners to demonstrate responsible action through, or as a result of, learning, and ultimately appreciate the process of learning and take pride in their accomplishments.

Community Project

Service is an essential element of all learners experience within the MYP at Good Shepherd Lutheran College. A central part of the IB mission and our own College mission is that we partner with our College community in helping each learner develop as an active, knowledgeable and compassionate person, who enriches our world through selfless service. To provide opportunities for each learner to be involved in a sustained, self-directed service learning experience, Year 8 learners engage in the Community Project. The Community Project is a self-directed project that will allow each learner to engage in a self-directed inquiry where they can use their God-given talents and abilities to create an authentic service and action project for a community of their choice.

Personal Project

The Personal Project is an independent research project where learners define a highly challenging goal for the creation of a product or outcome based on personal interest. Year 10 learners at Good Shepherd Lutheran College engage in the Personal Project and through this self-directed project, practice and strengthen their approaches to learning skills, consolidate prior learning and subject-specific knowledge, and to develop an area of personal interest. The Personal Project provides an excellent opportunity for students to produce a truly personal and often creative product / outcome and to demonstrate a consolidation of learning in the MYP.
